LUCY BERYL MORTIMER LETTER TO GLENN GOOD:  20 Aug 1918, Wonewoc, Wisconsin
" Florence told me last Sunday that Bert and Susie do not want Herbert to go with her, and anyway he did not come up after her Sunday but went right up towards Fred’s. I am not sure that he went there but he was all dressed up and had the horse and buggy. I am telling you a secret so say nothing about it as that is all I know about it. Surprising isn’t it."
Herbert Mosang Mortimer and Jeanne Ann Wallendal are 1st cousins 1 time removed.  Their common ancestors are John E. Mortimer and Rhoda Thelma Small.

LUCY BERYL MORTIMER LETTER TO GLENN GOOD:  26 Aug 1918, Wonewoc, Wisconsin
" The Service Flag was dedicated in the church yesterday, there were six stars. You, Raymond Cooley, Lee, Emil Pratt, Earl Moon and Joe Mayo. Pretty good for Valton, isn’t it? There was an unusually large crowd at church, and everything went off very nicely. Goldie sang “Keep the Home Fires Burning,” and I played. It was quite a difficult piece for me to play because there are so many octaves in it, and I became so excited, after which Earl prayed. In the afternoon, I went over at Verne’s. Iva and Ole went to Reedsburg. So Florence wanted me to come over and help entertain her little cousin. They aren’t very little either. Mr. and Mrs. Beier and Bert were there also, so I really had a good time. Bert came over town last evening so I rode over with him. I think he probably went to Oaks. Philip preached there last evening, but none of us went down. The auto does not work and it is too hard to ride clear down there in a wagon. There was no Endeavor last night on account of the other meeting. Miss Smith thought it best that I write and tell the Reedsburg Endeavorers to not come.  There was a program at the W. M. Church though. I did not go. Blanche calls it the show. Pretty good name for it, I think, but I should not say anything."

Goldie Carpenter letter to Glenn Good, 4 Sept. 1918, Wonewoc, Wisconsin
Florence and Hurbert seem to still love each other. They have to walk tho. Bert won’t let him have the car, nor a horse and buggy as long as he goes with her. Hard luck eh? We all seem to have our little troubles.
